Timazighin means “Amazigh women” in Amazigh.

For many years I have avoided using the word Berber because even if it initially means in Greek "one who speaks a foreign language", it conveys a pejorative and colonial image, assimilating our civilization to barbarians and savages.

The word Amazigh means the free or noble man or woman, which is much more validating and in line with our history following all the invasions of which our lands and people have been victims!

Why TIMAZIGHIN?

The project was born quite naturally from an observation: what remains of the cultural transmission and heritage of Amazigh women?

Being from an Amazigh tribe in Eastern Morocco myself, I experienced the complexity but also the awareness of witnessing the last generation of Amazigh women who lived like our ancestors, through my grandmothers. born a century ago.

The women of my family and tribe having lost their husbands young for many and various reasons, they have always been a model of matriarchy for me.

How can we claim and really know who we are when we are called "the Arabs" in France or worse "the Beurettes", when the Amazigh civilization has been made invisible in the face of pan-Arabism and when the propagandist "barbarity" has been associated with us during the colonization?

The other difficulty is also to start from missing, or even zero, links in the chain of transmission of material and intangible heritage of oral transmission: languages, clothing, jewelry, songs, poems, rituals, lifestyles, etc.

How can we overcome these lack of transmission when the older generations are no longer alive or quite simply if we wish to go through another channel than the family?

What will this site contain?

Having worked through different axes, mainly around live performance, self-taught research in colonial archives, through my family and through jewelry, the principle of this site is to centralize the fruit of my research and to constitute a more easily identifiable source. for people who are going through the same introspective journey as me.

This site will therefore contain:

  • blog articles on my research, questions and also rants but always argued :-)

  • photos and videos of my work

  • sharing events and news

  • creating a community

  • but also my services as an Amazigh artist and coach: conferences, dressing with Amazigh jewelry, personalized reconnection coaching, Amazigh artistic direction.

Timazighin power

Having had a parallel career in a male, scientific corporate environment and also being a certified Executive Coach specializing in leadership and change management, my professional experience as an Amazigh woman among men in the heart of the La Défense business district has given me a long time reflect on the parallels observed on the notions of leadership, empowerment, management within Amazigh tribes.

But above all the place of women and matriarchy in our ancestral tribal systems.

Timazighin power is a concept that I am launching at the same time as this website, to allow women and men to offer more spaces and self-confidence to Amazigh women, particularly from the diaspora, vis-à-vis about their identity and their power in the chain of transmission.

The idea being initially to create a community making it possible to link people by expectations, ambitions, expertise, to be able to connect them and offer to support them in a second step.
